X (formerly Twitter) has introduced its smart TV app, now in beta and available on the Google Play, Amazon, and LG app stores.
While the Play Store description touts it as a new way to explore the world of X, it’s unclear how many users will embrace the idea of interacting with social media on a large screen using a remote control. However, with X offering video content, expanding to TVs makes sense, as it allows users to stream events like SpaceX launches directly from their living rooms.
Elon Musk announced the beta release of X TV, now accessible on select Amazon Fire, Google, and LG TVs. For those without compatible devices, there’s little to miss for now. A teaser video showcased a typical streaming interface with rows of video links, but the current content offering is limited, featuring shows like Tucker Carlson’s and material from SpaceX and Tesla. Additionally, users may find that the actual app—particularly on Amazon Fire TV—falls short in both content availability and the polished appearance shown in the teaser.
